Season 3: Episode 1: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

1:00pm – 2:00pm
October 28, 03
Season premiere
The scoop: It's three years later and an unidentified individual drops off a body infected with a deadly virus at the National Health Service; Jack has spent the last year gaining access into Ramon Salazar's major drug ring in Mexico to get to the bottom of Salazar's ties to terrorism; Kim has obtained a position at CTU and has a new love interest; Tony and Michelle have tied the knot; Palmer is preparing for his electoral debates.
What's Up With Tony: Tony receives a call from Dr. Macer, of the National Health Service, who tells him about the body dropped off at the facility. The body was addressed to her and it turns out that the virus is a particular strain that her group has been reproducing. Meanwhile, Tony gets a call from a prospective job opportunity that he and Michelle have been waiting to hear from. The couple is disappointed when Tony is offered a position but Michelle is not. Michelle assures Tony that she'll follow him anywhere and he gives it right back to her saying, "If they don't have a job for you, I'm not interested."
What's Up With Kim: Kim is at her computer when Michelle orders Adam, a co-worker seated across from Kim, to do an analysis on the body left at the DHS. She tells Kim to help him and instructs Adam to send Kim the information she'll need. After Michelle leaves, Adam refuses to send Kim anything claiming that he doesn't need her help and that the only reason she got this job is because of her dad. Kim then proceeds to use her skills to freeze Adam's computer and won't unfreeze it until he sends her the information she needs. Adam begrudgingly does so. Later, Kim is in the computer room and startled by Chase (Jack's young partner) who comes up behind her and embraces her. She happily turns to kiss him. She tells Chase that she's tired of hiding their relationship from her dad and Chase reassures her that he'll talk to Jack about them that day.
What's up at the Salazar Ranch in Mexico: Ramon's brother, Hector, is with his girlfriend, Claudia when his mole at CTU, Gael, tells him that the body has been received. Hector tells Gael to wait 10 minutes and then make the call. When Hector checks up with Gael later, Gael confirms that the call was made and that he's keeping an eye on "the boy".
What's Up With Kyle: Kyle is a teenager who's getting in over his head. He tells his friend, Tim, that he was paid to travel to Tijuana to transport cocaine. He asks Tim to go with him when he drops it off, but Tim doesn't want any part of it.
What's Up With Jack: Jack, with his young partner Chase Edmunds, watch through a one-way mirror as Ramon Salazar's attorney tries to get Salazar to sign a deal in which he'll give up the terrorist cells he's involved with. Jack's face is filled with hatred and fury as Salazar speaks into the mirror goading him. When the attorney hands Salazar a pen to sign the deal he and Chase watch as Salazar stabs his attorney in the neck with the pen. As Salazar's led away he yells at Jack, "This is your fault and what happens next is your fault too!" Afterward, as Jack drives them from the prison, Chase notices that he isn't looking so good and calls him on it. Jack feigns ignorance and ignores Chase when he says, "You know what I'm talking about." Jack, who's uneasy after Salazar's comment about "what happens next…"calls Tony at CTU to see if anything is going on. After learning of the infected body from Tony, Kate Warner calls Jack on his cell phone. It's obvious that there are unresolved issues between them when Kate says she misses him and Jack meekly apologizes and hangs up. When they arrive at CTU Jack heads into his office, sweating profusely. He's ornery and uncomfortable when dealing with Chloe, his secretary. Jack chooses to listen to Dr. Macer's briefing about the virus from the videophone in his office, rather than join Tony and Michelle downstairs. The doctor tells them that the virus has been reproduced to speed up its infection. She delivers the grim news that thousands of people could be infected within the first two days and millions will be dead within a week. Later, Tony plays a recording from an anonymous caller who Jack believes could be Salazar's brother, Hector. The caller states that his group is in possession of the virus and that if Ramon Salazar isn't released within 6 hours they will release the virus into the public. At that point, the identity of the body left at NHS is identified as a drug dealer/informant. Jack orders Michelle to find out whom he was in contact with. Chase, who's planning on telling Jack about the feelings he and Kim have for each other, decides against it when he sees the stress Jack's under. He decides, instead, to talk to Jack about what is causing him such turmoil. He tells Jack that he knows about what Salazar did to him and that he needs to get his head together because it's going to be a tough day. After Chase leaves, Jack is clearly distraught. He closes the blinds in his office and grabs a little box from his closet. He proceeds to prepare a syringe full of a substance to shoot into his arm. He's about to shoot up when Kim pages him. Upon hearing her voice Jack hurls the needle across the room and yells in agony.
What's Up With Palmer: Palmer's in L.A. for an electoral debate. He's a bit shaken and weak and still suffers from lingering problems resulting from the attempt on his life. Palmer's Chief of Staff also happens to be his brother, Wayne, who seems to be Palmer's strength and right-hand-man. Palmer's personal doctor, Anne, shows up to give him a check-up and Wayne asks her to leave so he can inform Palmer about virus threat. They decide to go on with the debate as scheduled. Later, Anne brings Palmer a bottle of pills that she orders him to take in order to increase his energy. Before he takes Anne into his arms and kisses her, he states, "This is going to be another one of those days."

Season 3: Episode 2: 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

2:00pm – 3:00pm
November 4, 03
The Scoop:
Jack and Chase follow up on the identity of David Goss, the virus-infected body; Kim tells Jack about her and Chase; Palmer prepares for his debate with some questionable help from Wayne.
What's Up With CTU:
Tony updates Wayne on the details of the terrorist threat, with Dr. Macer giving the disturbing prospects if the virus is released. Wayne tells Tony that Salazar will never be released; Tony advises him that CTU will need any and all available resources necessary to find the terrorists. A short while later, Dr. Macer calls Michelle to tell her that it looks as though the body was infected with a crystallized form of the virus, meaning they should look out for bags of cocaine and/or heroin.
What's Up With Kim:
Kim is upset that Chase doesn't feel that today is a good day to reveal their relationship to Jack. Believing she knows her dad better than anybody, Kim tells Jack that after all they've been through she never wants to hide anything from him and that she and Chase are dating and becoming serious. Afterward, when Chase asks her what Jack said about it, Kim tells him, "Nothing."
What's Up With Jack:
Still sweating and tempted to shoot up Jack resists his addiction. Even with Chase suggesting that he may need to take a little in order to keep his head straight, Jack's determined to kick the habit by himself although he secretly places a small vile into his medical kit. Jack and Chase leave to go to the last known address of David Goss, which is an abandoned building turned crack house. They're shot at by one of the crack-heads, Zach. After pursuing him, Zach is caught and tells them that a man named Carlos Corretja of Tijuana was Goss' dealer and that Corretja paid some kid named Kyle, $5,000 to bring a bag of cocaine across the border. Kyle's supposed to deliver the bag to Zach that night, and he'll receive an additional $5,000.
What's Up With Chase:
Chase can tell that Jack isn't happy about him and Kim. Jack tells Chase that nobody in their line of business can have a successful relationship with anybody and that the reason he got Kim the job at CTU was to keep her safe. He doesn't want Chase involved with Kim because of the danger in his job. When they capture Zach, Chase expects to accompany Jack on his quest to find Kyle. When Jack orders him to stay behind Chase is shocked and bothered when Jacks tells him that if he's really serious about pursuing a relationship with Kim, than Jack has to keep Chase out of any dangerous situation they may get involved in.
What's Up With Palmer:
Palmer tells Wayne that they should cancel the debate given the current terrorist threat. Wayne discourages Palmer by claiming there's nothing he can do about the situation now. After Palmer's opponent Senator Keeler arrives, Wayne tells Palmer that he may be able to get a hold of Keeler's "playbook", which defines what his main points of the debate will be. Palmer won't even discuss such a thing and dismisses Wayne's suggestion. Later Palmer meets with Anne, his girlfriend and doctor and tells her she needs her to speak to Dr. Macer to find out as much information about the virus as she can. Anne wants Palmer to protect himself by leaving L.A. but Palmer refuses. At that point an agent comes in to tell Palmer that Wayne has something to show him. That something turns out to be Keeler's playbook. Although Palmer doesn't plan on opening it, Wayne informs him that there's something in the book about Anne that could potentially damage everybody.
What's up with Kyle: Kyle hears his mother trying to convince their landlord not to evict them. He walks into his room where his girlfriend, Linda, is waiting for him, rummages through his bag and presents the landlord with the $1,800 they owe him. He doesn't answer his mother when she asks where he got the money. When Kyle returns to his room he finds that Linda has discovered his bag of cocaine. He tries reassuring her that after this one time he'll never do it again and he's only doing it to help his family. To no avail, Linda walks out telling him they're through.
What's up at the Salazar Ranch in Mexico: Hector sees Claudia arguing with her father because he doesn't approve of her life. He walks over to her father who cowers before him. Then he tells Claudia to never yell at her father again and backhands her. She tells him it's not his concern and he walks over, grimacing and looking perverse and kisses her. Later Hector calls his contact in the U.S., Gael, who updates him on everything that's going on. After the call Gael leaves the computer room and enters the main lobby of CTU where Kim tells him Chloe (Jack's secretary is looking for him).

3 PM - 4 PM

The Scoop: Jack is working with the health department to track down Kyle Singer; Palmer refuses to believe allegations against Anne; the deadly virus is unleashed.
What's Up With CTU:
Michelle is busy trying to decipher the voice of the anonymous caller and tells Gael (unaware that it's his voice on the tape) that she's figured out the call was made within the U.S. and she wants him to narrow it down even more. Meanwhile, Tony advises CTU that Kyle Singer is in possession of a bag of cocaine that, unbeknownst to him, contains the virus.
What's up with Kyle: Kyle's preparing for his delivery when his dad arrives home and demands to know where Kyle got the money to pay the rent. Kyle makes up an excuse that his father doesn't buy and he locks himself in his room. As he's getting ready to leave, Kyle hears his parents arguing outside his room. He grabs his backpack and walks out. His father stops him and demands that he open his backpack. Kyle refuses but his dad grabs it, opens it and comes up with the bag of cocaine. He incredulously asks Kyle what it is. Kyle anxiously explains that he's not a drug dealer, that he's only making a delivery. He lunges for the bag, he and his dad struggle and Kyle runs out of the apartment. Afterwards, he calls Linda, his girlfriend and she reluctantly agrees to meet him at the mall and bring him some money.
What's up at the Salazar Ranch in Mexico: Claudia points out to Hector that he's been in charge since his brother, Ramon, has been in jail. She asks him if he believes it will be easy for him to give up that position once Ramon is released. Before he can answer, Hector gets a call from Gael who tells him that Jack's about to find Kyle. Hector isn't dissuaded because one of his cronies, Gomez, is trailing Kyle.
What's Up With Jack: Jack's in a CTU van, waiting a team from the Health department to accompany him to Kyle Singer's apartment. He's sweating and going through drug withdrawal. He begins to shoot up but has to stop quickly and drops the vile onto the floor when the team arrives and Dr. Nicole Duncan hops into the van with him. As Dr. Duncan gives Jack the grim news that the virus is much more deadly than previously thought, she notices that he's sweating profusely and asks him if he feels okay. Just as Jack's telling her he's fine, she looks down and sees the vile on the van floor. Later, she confronts Jack and tells him that she won't turn him in but that she hopes his state of mind won't compromise their mission. When Jack and the Health team arrive at the Singer's, Mrs. Singer panics and flushes the white powder down the toilet. Jack calls Tony, notifying him that the virus has been released and the Singer's apartment is quarantined. While Dr. Duncan assesses the remainder of the contents of the bag, Jack throws up in the bathroom. It's determined that the virus isn't present in the bag of cocaine. Jack asks Dr. Duncan if the virus could be enclosed in a person. Since Kyle traveled to Tijuana to pick up the drugs, he may have been deliberately infected with the virus. The incubation period for the virus is 14 hours; Kyle has 3 hours before showing symptoms. Mr. Singer calls Kyle on his cell phone to tell him he may be sick but Kyle doesn't believe him and hangs up before the call can be traced. Meanwhile, Kyle's being followed by Gomez, who's been instructed by Gael to capture and quarantine him before CTU gets to him first. Tony tells Jack that he'll get a team together and intercept Kyle at the mall where they'll meet Jack. When Jack arrives at the mall, Kyle has run off and Tony is found shot in the neck and bleeding profusely.
What's Up With Ramon: In his cell, Ramon calls his guard over and tells him to go get District Attorney Annicon because he's sick of being locked up and he's ready to talk. Once Salazar gets Annicon outside his cell, the guard strikes Annicon and strangles him with his baton. Once Annicon has stopped struggling and breathing Salazar tells the guard that his son will now be returned to him.
What's Up With Kim: When Kim sees that Chase isn't accompanying her dad, she asks him why. He tells her it's because she told Jack about their relationship. Chase is annoyed because he told her that she shouldn't tell Jack today, but she went ahead and told him anyway. He becomes even more upset when he tries calling Jack but Jack won't answer any of his calls. He tells Kim she doesn't know Jack as well as she thinks she does. When Kim mentions that the only option they had was to stop seeing each other, Chase doesn't respond.
What's Up With Palmer: Wayne has enlightened Palmer to the allegations against Anne that Senator Keeler is going to bring up during their debate. Palmer's aware that Anne's ex-husband was convicted of making up research at the drug company he worked for. Even though her ex originally claimed that Anne knew nothing of what was going on, he's now alleging that she did know. Palmer refuses to believe the accusation and he's not happy that Wayne doesn't trust or like Anne. Wayne convinces Palmer to talk to her and make sure she's told him everything she knows. When Palmer confronts Anne he tells her he believes her when she says she's already told him everything. Afterwards, Wayne tells Palmer that Anne's ex-husband will keep quiet for a fee. Palmer unwillingly agrees to pay him.

4 PM - 5 PM

The Scoop: Kyle gets Linda caught up in his mess; Michelle's now in charge of CTU; Jack proposes a risky plan to Palmer.

What's Up With CTU: After being told that Tony's been shot and will be going into surgery, Michelle realizes that she's the only person qualified to run CTU. She's faced with the difficult task of staying focused on her work while distressing over Tony's condition. Chloe (Jack's secretary) asks Michelle to join her, Gael and Adam in the conference room. They try to convince her that she should go to Tony and let them handle CTU. Michelle is tempted but refuses.

What's up with Kyle: Kyle meets Linda at an entrance behind the mall. Linda doesn't understand what's going on and Kyle does his best to explain. He tells her that he may have been infected with some sort of sickness when he was in Tijuana. Linda forces him to pull over and she jumps out of the car telling Kyle to take the car and the money but to stay away from her. Then a van screeches up and two men get out. Kyle yells at Linda to "RUN!" One man grabs Kyle and the other takes hold of Linda, forcing them both into the van. They're driven to some sort of warehouse where several men dressed in contamination protection suits place them into a big, dome-shaped quarantine cell. They watch in confusion and horror as the two men who abducted them are hosed down and decontaminated.

What's Up With Palmer: Wayne is on his way to pay off Anne's ex-husband while Anne speaks with Palmer. He admits to her that he's agreed to pay in order to keep the scandal from coming out. Anne convinces him that she can handle anything that comes her way and to not pay. Palmer calls Wayne and tells him to leave because he's not going through with the payment. Wayne's dismayed but complies. Later, in the debate auditorium he confronts Anne and asks her how she'll feel if Palmer loses the election because of her. She tells him that she knows Palmer well enough to know that bribery isn't the way he works. Wayne implies that she may be in over her head. Anne looks him in the eye saying she doesn't scare easily and turns away.

What's up at the Salazar Ranch in Mexico: Hector's on the phone with Gael and becomes frustrated when he's told that the President still hasn't Okayed the release of Ramon. Afterwards, he sees Claudia's young cousin playing with a gun. Instead of reprimanding the boy Hector allows him to take the gun and shows him how to shoot it. Claudia walks in as Hector's patting the young boy and laughing. She grabs the gun and points it at Hector who taunts her, knowing she won't shoot him. She glares at him with hatred and puts the gun down.

What's Up With Jack: Palmer firmly tells Jack that he will never negotiate with terrorists for any reason. Jack understands Palmer's position and tells him that he has a way to stop the virus from being released, by getting Salazar out of prison while never giving into his demands. They can accomplish this by staging a prison break, in which Jack assists Salazar in escaping. Jack explains that his breaking Salazar out will make sense, given his past with him. This means this would be his last mission and he would have to leave the country forever. Jack tells Palmer that if he doesn't say anything Jack will take that as an okay to proceed with the mission. After several seconds of silence Jack says, "Good luck, Mr. President" and hangs up. Afterwards, expecting he won't see her again, he phones Kim. She tells him that Chase has gone to the prison so he calls Chase and orders him to leave. Chase disregards him saying that he's in no position order him to do anything and hangs up. When Jack arrives at the prison he's brought down to Salazar's cell where he finds Chase and pretends to not care about their last conversation and is ready to assist him with Salazar. As soon as Chase turns his back on him, Jack puts him in a chokehold until he passes out.

What's Up With Chase: Chase is extremely upset that Jack's forcing him to stay back at CTU. He decides to go the prison to interrogate Salazar. When he arrives the prison head is unsure that he should let Chase see Salazar until Chase explains the terrorist threat and claims that it's the only way to get the crucial information they need from Salazar. The prison head lets him into Salazar's cell and says that he has 30 minutes. Chase proceeds to rough Salazar up, trying to inflict enough pain so he'll start talking. When Jack shows up, Chase is relieved that Jack's no longer upset and assumes the two of them will work together. The next thing he knows, he's waking up bound and gagged in Salazar's cell. Meanwhile, the prison head sees that the camera in Salazar's cell has been moved and he, along with several guards, find Chase who yells at them to stop Jack and Salazar.

What's Up With Salazar: Salazar's sure Jack's there to kill him but complies when Jack tells him to help him tie up Chase. Jack leads him down the prison halls and waits for the prison head to give Jack the okay to take Salazar out. Jack explains to him that it's crucial he does this and given Jack's authority, the prison head is easily convinced. As Jack and Salazar walk through the prison the alarm goes off and Jack knows that their cover's been blown. He orders the cell operator to open up all of the prison cells, hence causing a massive prison breakout and therefore enabling Jack and Salazar to be lost in the crowd.

5 PM - 6 PM

The Scoop: Jack's idea to disguise himself and Salazar as prison guards backfires on him; Palmer begins his debate with Keeler; Kim's enlightened to Jack's secret.

What's up at the Salazar Ranch in Mexico: Claudia stirs Hector by telling him that when Ramon comes back he shouldn't give up his position as leader. Hector's moved but is distracted when Gael calls and tells him that CTU is close to finding Kyle. He tells Gael to make sure that doesn't happen.

What's Up With CTU:
Kim's analyzing a photo of a van leaving the mall to see if the passenger inside is Kyle, when Michelle tells her that Jack's trying to break Salazar out of prison. Kim's unsettled when she learns that Jack, knowing she wouldn't question him, used her trust in him to get her to give him a prison transfer. Afterwards, Kim positively identifies the passenger in the van as Kyle. While she and Adam work on locating the van their computers shut down on them with error messages and their search is delayed as they try to figure out the problem. Meanwhile, Michelle has Chloe search Jack's office for any clues into why he's helping Salazar. During this time, Michelle calls the hospital to check on Tony who's still in surgery. While searching, Chloe comes across Jack's stash of drugs and has it positively tested for heroin. As she's leaving Jack's office with the box of evidence Kim enters and asks what's in the box. Chloe's reluctant to tell her but Kim's insistent and Chloe tells her that it seems her dad's a drug user. Kim's stunned, distraught and crying but manages to continue her work with Adam. They finally determine the location of the van and Michelle immediately sends out the teams.

What's up with Kyle: While in the quarantine cell, Linda asks Kyle if she's going to die. He tells her that he has two more hours before he's contagious so if they're found by then she'll be okay. He decides to search for a way to save Linda and begins pounding on the pipes above them, searching for wires. He finds some long wires and Linda doesn't understand what he's doing until he ties the wires into a noose and puts it around his neck saying, "If I die, the virus dies with me" and jumps off the chair he's standing on. Linda struggles to free him as Kyle begins to gag. She's able to break the wires and Kyle falls to the floor gasping for breath. Afterwards, the two continue to wait in apprehension until a team of suited CTU agents burst into the warehouse.

What's Up With Palmer: Before he goes on stage for the debate, Anne apologizes to Palmer that he has to deal with her ex-husband's lies. He tells her all that matters is they know the truth. As expected, after the debate gets underway, Keeler brings up Palmer's past with his ex-wife Sherry and her shady values and ties it in with Anne, accusing her of fabricating results in a drug trial that caused the death of three people. Anne looks guilty and Wayne asks if she gets it now.

What's Up With Jack: The prison is in complete chaos as prisoners riot. Attempting to escape unnoticed Jack and Salazar beat up two guards and dress in their uniforms. As they're running through the prison a group of irate prisoners grab them and force them into a room where they're holding several guards hostage. The head prisoner, Peel, taunts the guards, grabs one of them along with Jack, sits them down at a table and forces them to play Russian Roulette. He loads a revolver with 1 bullet and demands the guard point it at his head and pull the trigger. The guard is terrified and refuses to do it. Peel tells his fellow inmates to kill him but Jack yells at them to wait. He tells the guard to do it because at least then he has a chance. The guard puts the gun to his head, pulls the trigger and falls over dead. The inmates cheer as Peel grabs Salazar to take the fallen guard's spot at the table. Jack and Salazar are forced to play Russian Roulette against each other. First Jack pulls the trigger and lives. When it's Salazar's turn he tells Peel that if he dies his brother will get him. Then he pulls the trigger and lives. It's Jack's turn again and he looks up at the vent, sees the light from Chase's headset and realizes they're about to be rescued. Instead of shooting the gun at his head he shoots it at Peel's chest and Peel is shot dead. As Jack and Salazar scramble to dodge bullets and shoot prisoners, Chase and a team burst in. Chase calls for Jack who's escaped again with Salazar.

What's Up With Chase: Chase tells the prison warden about the virus threat. He's pretty sure that if CTU is able to find Kyle that Jack will turn Salazar over. He says it's crucial that Salazar is kept alive. After Jack and Salazar successfully escape from the enraged prisoners, the warden sets up the SWAT team to catch them. Holding the rifle to Salazar's head, Jack emerges from the prison and tells Chase that he needs a helicopter because he must get Salazar back to Mexico in order to prevent the virus from being released. Chase tells Jack that they're close to finding Kyle but since Jack has no idea how long it will take he has to go now. Chase tells the warden to order his men to stand down and let Jack and Salazar through. He complies and Jack and Salazar board a chopper and take off. Just as they're about to lift off Chase receives a call from Michelle that they've got Kyle in custody. Chase yells and waves at Jack to stop because they've got Kyle, but Jack can't hear him and flies off with Salazar.

6 PM - 7 PM

The Scoop: Jack and Salazar are being trailed by military choppers; Palmer halts the debate with Keeler; Kim's about to have another one of those days.

What's Up With CTU: Ryan Chappelle is going to be taking over for Tony and Michelle gets him up to speed on everything that's going on. Since Kyle - and the virus - has been caught Chappelle plans on instructing the military to shoot down Jack's helicopter before it reaches downtown L.A. After Kim hears of the plans, Michelle tells her they feel it would be best if she leave CTU. Kim tells her she can handle it and convinces her that they need her to help them contact Jack. Chappelle gets a call from Chase advising him to get Palmer's okay before he authorizes Jack's chopper to be shot down.

What's Up With Palmer:
Palmer's in the middle of his debate when Wayne gets a call from Chappelle notifying him of the situation with Jack and Salazar. Wayne's forced to tell Palmer about the situation through a microphone Palmer has inside his ear. As Wayne gives him the details, Senator Keeler is simultaneously asking for Palmer's response to a particularly difficult accusation. Rather than answer, Palmer says that he's just been notified of a national emergency and that he's going to have to cut the debate short. He apologizes and exits the stage. Palmer's reluctant to give the military authorization to shoot down Jack's helicopter but Wayne encourages him to do so. With only 1 minute left before Jack's chopper enters civilian area over L.A., Palmer calls Chappelle and gives him the authorization he needs; he in turn notifies the military to shoot down Jack's chopper.

What's Up With Jack: Jack sees the military helicopters trailing him and knows that they are going to try to shoot him down. He also knows that if he can reach downtown L.A. before they begin to fire they won't go through with it. As the military choppers struggle to secure a firing position, Jack's able to fly low between buildings and Major Blanchard tells the choppers to stand down their fire because he's too close to civilians. Jack lands the helicopter in the middle of a downtown L.A. street.

What's Up With Chase: Chase has been trying to get word to Jack that Kyle Singer is in custody. Chloe's finally been able to patch him through to Jack's helicopter radio. Chase frantically yells into it that they have Kyle, just as Jack and Salazar are running away from the chopper and into Metro Station. Chase runs off to Metro Station and hunts for Jack and Salazar on his own. Little does he know that Jack and Salazar have managed to steal a car from a valet parking lot and have driven off.

What's Up With Salazar: As he and Jack are driving off to the airport, Salazar taunts Jack and says that he had no idea he was an agent back in Mexico. He tells him that he didn't need to do drugs and asks him why he did. He asks what he wanted the drugs to make go away. When they arrive at the airport, several men grab Jack and hold a gun to his head. Salazar asks Jack if he really thought he'd have let him go. The men knock Jack out and drag him up the ramp and onto the plane.

What's Up With the Salazar Ranch in Mexico: An agitated Hector tells Claudia that Ramon will be on his way home soon and that Jack will be accompanying him. Claudia can't believe that after everything Jack did to the Salazar family, they are actually bringing him back. She strongly discourages Hector from encouraging it.

What's Up With Kyle: Kyle is brought to the hospital in a sealed off portable bed. He's frantic with worry about Linda and what's going to happen to both of them. Dr. Duncan tells him that Linda and his parents are okay and they don't have the virus. While he's in his room his parents are able to talk to him through the glass windows. Kyle's dad blames himself for being unable to provide adequately enough and putting Kyle in a situation where he felt as though he had to sell drugs for money. Kyle assures him that it wasn't his fault and collapses in tears as he tells his parents how much he loves them. Later, he watches Dr. Duncan on a phone call and he can tell by her face that the subject is startling her. She enters Kyle's room without her protective gear, his parent's in tow, and tells Kyle that his blood has tested negative for the virus. Kyle is not infected with the virus after all. As Kyle and his parents are hugging in joy, Dr. Duncan calls Chappelle at CTU and he asks her what's going on. She says to him, "you tell me…the dead body dropped off today, was obviously infected with the virus".

What's Up With Kim: Kim is not only distressed about finding out that her dad may be doing drugs; she's also distressed that his life is in danger. Regardless, she's doing her best trying to keep her mind on her duties. Michelle is worried about Tony, but after she receives a call from the hospital that he's out of surgery and is going to be all right, she's able to focus completely. Chappelle tells her to have Gael analyze air traffic and Michelle tells Adam and Kim to send Gael up to her office. They go down to where Gael works in IT and Adam tells him to go up to Michelle's office while he prepares Kim to work on something in IT. Gael is obviously uncomfortable but he leaves. As Kim's working alone in IT, she sees that Gael's left his computer on. It shows the tape of Jack being knocked out and dragged onto the plane moments ago. She hurriedly picks up the phone to notify somebody but is stopped when somebody walks in. It's Gael who says he forgot to shut his files down; and he's pointing a gun at Kim.

7 PM - 8 PM

The Scoop: Jack is kept in a locked room on the plane to Mexico as Salazar parties next door to him; Gael has bound Kim and taped her mouth in the IT room at CTU; Tony's made a quick recovery and is desperate to get back to CTU.

What's Up With Palmer: Anne's feeling bad about the fiasco her ex-husband is causing for Palmer and says that maybe Palmer should have just paid him off. Palmer reassures her that they did the right thing. In addition to Wayne making it clear that he feels Anne is no good for Palmer, now his press secretary also tells him that Anne will only hurt his campaign. Meanwhile, Anne receives a call from her ex-husband claiming that he has papers that will prove her innocence and he wants to meet with her.

What's Up With Chase: Chase is determined to save Jack and even when Chappelle orders him to return to CTU he refuses. Chappelle tells him that he knows Jack's been using heroin and even though Chase denies it, he feels Chase must have known all along. He tells Chase that if he doesn't return to CTU he'll be fired but Chase isn't fazed and heads over to the home of Salazar's accountant, where he checks out where Salazar's money is going. When Chase sees that money has gone to a small town in Mexico he decides to take the accountant's private plane to the town. Later, he calls Kim and tells her where he's going and that he thinks Jack may have taken Salazar there. Kim tells Chase about the tape she saw of Jack being dragged onto the plane and about Gael being a double agent. Chase tells Kim to not tell anyone at CTU what he's doing and Kim reluctantly agrees.

What's Up With Jack: Jack's unconscious until Salazar pours a bottle of champagne over his head to wake him. Even though he's been provided with champagne and women, he desperately wants to kill Jack and he can't understand why Hector wants him kept alive until they arrive in Mexico. His helper convinces him to wait so Salazar goes back to partying and Jack is left handcuffed with another helper who keeps an eye on him. Jack pretends to have a seizure and when the helper approaches him Jack gets him in a scissors hold with his legs, chokes him, takes his gun and unlocks his handcuffs. The next time Salazar opens the door, Jack's waiting for him, grabs him and holds the gun to his head. Salazar scoffs at him, telling him that Hector will have an army waiting for them when they land. When they land in Mexico, Hector is ready and waiting with an army. He calls for Salazar and he comes out with Jack still holding the gun to his head. Salazar yells for Hector to kill Jack but no one moves. Jack yells to Hector that Salazar tried to kill him and that this wasn't what they agreed to. Jack lets Salazar go and Hector and Salazar hug. Then Hector walks up to Jack and everyone's amazed when Hector tells Jack he did a good job and embraces him. He puts his arm around Jack saying they have a lot of work to do. As Jack presses a button on his watch Hector tells Salazar that he'll explain everything.

What's Up At CTU: Michelle is preparing to leave CTU and go to the hospital to see Tony. She's leaving Gael in charge and has Adam send all of her files to Gael's computer. Meanwhile, Gael has left Kim alone in IT with her mouth, legs and hands bound with duct tape. He scrambles the access code into IT so that nobody will be able to get in and joins the conference Chappelle's holding in which he informs everyone that since Kyle Singer is not infected with the virus it means that Salazar's organization still has the virus and finding him is top priority. Afterwards, Adam begins looking for Kim; he grows concerned when he's unable to locate her. Gael's nervous because Adam's determined to find her. Adam heads to IT and phones Michelle when he can't get in. Michelle overrides the access code so Adam's able to enter and he finds Kim tied up. Knowing his cover's about to be blown Gael attempts to escape. He knock's out several guards but is stopped by Michelle at the last one and he drops his gun and surrenders. Gael's brought into the interrogation room and Chappelle prepares to interrogate him (with the help of CTU's torture head) while Michelle goes to the hospital. Gael refuses to talk, even under the pain of torture he doesn't break. Meanwhile, at the hospital Michelle gets Tony up to speed on what's going on. Tony's adamant that he get over to CTU ASAP and signs himself out, telling Michelle to trust him. When they arrive at CTU Tony insists on meeting with Gael by himself but Chappelle refuses to leave. Just then Gael's beeper buzzes and Gael looks at Tony and says, "He's in." Tony reveals that he and Gael have been working with Jack to get him back in with the Salazar organization; he says they need to contact Palmer immediately.

8 PM - 9 PM

The Scoop: Jack reveals all unanswered questions to Palmer on a pre-recorded video message; Chase arrives in Las Nieves, Mexico and has no idea what he's getting into.

What's Up With Palmer: Anne meets her ex-husband to pick up documents that prove her innocence in the research scandal. At his hotel room, although Anne tries to convince him not to, he shoots himself in front of her. Later, she brings the documents back and Wayne apologizes and offers her his condolences. Then Anne tells Palmer that she can't handle this life style and ends their relationship.
Earlier in the hour, Palmer gets a call from Tony telling him that everything that's happened thus far - including the viral-infected body - has all been part of a staged operation headed by Jack. He plays a pre-recorded video message that opens with Jack telling Palmer that since he's watching this tape it means he's back in with the Salazars. He explains that the Salazars have never been in possession of the virus, it was all a fabrication made up by Jack in order to dismantle a far more serious threat. He reveals that Ukrainian scientists have been trying to sell the deadly virus to terrorist groups and that Jack told them the Salazars are potential buyers. He then had to break Ramon out of prison in order to prove his allegiance to their group. He explains that they didn't tell Palmer in order to protect himself and his presidency. In conclusion, Jack asks Palmer to give Tony permission to work with the military so they can gain control of the virus and get it off the market. After viewing the video, Palmer's furious that he was kept in the dark but gives Tony permission, making it clear that he will face the consequences of his actions when it's all over.

What's Up At CTU: Tony's feeling weak but even after he falls down from dizziness he manages to hide his ill health. Michelle's not only concerned about his health but after hearing his revelation to Palmer she's taken aback that Tony hid this information from her for so long. After learning about the covert operation her dad's involved in, Kim tells Tony that Chase is on his way to Las Nieves to rescue Jack. Realizing Chase could destroy the entire operation, Tony desperately tries to get a hold of him to stop him but can't get through. He contacts an agent in Mexico to track Chase down and alert him to what's going on.

What's Up With Chase: The agent finds him when Chase unexpectedly jumps out and holds him at gunpoint. The agent proves who he is and hands Chase a phone so he can call Tony. Before Tony can say a word shots are fired and the agent is shot dead. Chase hops in his truck and dodges bullets while trying to speak to Tony. His truck gets stuck in a ditch and he tries to reach for the phone but is pulled out of the truck by a group of armed men and taken to the Salazar ranch.

What's Up With Jack: Hector explains to Ramon that Jack came to him with the opportunity to buy the virus from Ukrainian scientists which they can then sell to Al Queda and North Korea for billions. He tries to convince Ramon of Jack's conviction by informing him that Jack was the one who dropped off the dead body at the health center earlier that day. They bring Jack in and Jack explains to Ramon that not only did he lose his wife because of his job but also that even after he captured him (Ramon) all he gained was a drug addiction. He claims that he's helping them for 50 million dollars and because he's tired of putting himself on the line. Hector hands Ramon a gun and says that if he wants to throw away billions of dollars to shoot Jack now. Ramon fires but Hector knocks the gun so the bullet misses Jack. Jack's taken to another room as the brothers discuss the situation. While in there, Claudia walks in and slaps Jack's face reminding him that he told her he'd take her away from here. She scoffs at his heroin addiction then offers him the drug. Then she sees Jack's suffering and feels sympathy for him. They obviously have feelings for each other. Finally, Ramon agrees to the deal and Jack's brought in to make the call. As he phones his Ukrainian contact, Armador, the Salazar militia bursts in with Chase. Ramon recognizes him as Jack's partner and is convinced that additional CTU agents are on the way. Jack yells that he had no idea he was coming. Chase incredulously asks Jack if he's with the Salazars and when Jack answers yes Chase lunges for him and Jack's watch - his transponder and his connection to CTU - is smashed. Ramon tells Jack he must kill Chase if he's to prove he's truly on their side. Chase spits in Jack's face as he walks over to him. Jack holds the gun to Chase's head and pulls the trigger…it clicks, the guns unloaded. Ramon's convinced of Jack's sincerity and orders Chase to be interrogated. Jack and Chase are brought to a safe house to wait for Armador's call. While en route, Jack anxiously taps his watch while back at CTU Gael tells Tony that Jack's transponder is black; they have no way of knowing where he is.

9 PM - 10 PM

The Scoop: Palmer finds himself in another predicament; Tony's competency comes into question; Jack is walking on a thin line with the Salazar's.

What's Up With Palmer: Palmer holds a brief press conference apologizing for having to cut the debate short and explaining (without giving details) that it was due to a national terrorist threat. On his way out a reporter asks him if he intentionally staged the event to cause distraction from the Anne issue. Palmer calmly and firmly disregards that notion and claims that Senator Keeler will have some explaining to do very soon. Later, Palmer receives a call from Alan Milligen, a powerful and wealthy campaign supporter with whom Palmer has had a close relationship. He wants to meet with Palmer and specifically tells him not to bring Wayne. When Palmer meets with Milligen, sans Wayne, Milligen brings his wife in. She explains that she and Wayne had an affair a few years ago when he was working for Milligen. Now Milligen wants Palmer to fire Wayne, his campaign manager, as a repercussion. Palmer refuses and Milligen tells him that he'll then have to deal with the consequences of not following his request. When Palmer later confronts Wayne about the issue, Wayne offers to resign because Milligen is very powerful and can wreak havoc upon Palmer, but Palmer tells him he's not to resign.

What's Up At CTU: Tony is stressed and seems uncomfortable as everybody is working furiously to find out why Jack's transponder isn't working. He gives Kim an assignment and she asks him for satellite coordinates. He gets angry and tells her he just gave her the coordinates. Kim's taken aback because he didn't give her the coordinates. Later, Kim needs a crucial code and Tony gives her an expired one and although he quickly corrects his error, it could have been a major impediment. Kim is concerned that Tony isn't well enough to run CTU and she brings her concern to Michelle. Michelle questions Tony who is immediately defensive. She decides that she has no choice but tell Chappelle that she doesn't feel Tony is competent right now to run CTU. Chappelle brings Tony in and begins to question him. He turns off his computer monitor and asks Tony what was on it. Tony's able to remember exact details from what was on the monitor. Then Chappelle brings up the other mistakes Tony made with Kim and Tony is able to legitimately verify every mishap. As Chappelle dismisses Tony to go back to work Tony glares at Michelle for her betrayal and Chappelle tells her that she's wasted valuable time.

What's Up With Chase: Chase is brought into a farmhouse on the Salazar Ranch and is hung by his wrists. Salazar's cronies try to get him to give them information by beating and tormenting him. Chase keeps his mouth closed except for his agonizing screams of pain, which are clearly audible to Jack.

What's Up With Jack:
Realizing he has no way to contact CTU and listening to Chase's excruciating screams, Jack goes to Claudia and reveals the whole mission to her. He tells her that he will now be able to rescue her, her dad and her son and take them away. He asks her to get him a phone so he can contact CTU and to save Chase. She tells him that if he betrays her again she'll kill him and the two share a passionate kiss. Afterward she succeeds in getting Hector's cell phone and secretly gives it to Jack when she walks outside with Hector. Then she visits Chase while his torturers are on a break. She tells him the truth about Jack and that she will get him out of this soon. When Jack and the Salazars meet with Armador to exchange the money for the virus, Armador tells them he has another person who wants to purchase the virus and they're going to have to hold an auction. The other buyer shows up and Jack is stunned when Nina Meyers steps out of the car. She yells for him to be killed because he's an agent and she's shocked when they tell her they know who he is. Jack convinces the Salazar's to up their price so they can be sure to get the virus. He knows the only way he's going to be able to get the virus (and therefore stop it from being released) is if the Salazar's are able to purchase it. The auction is held and Nina outbids the Salazar's. With that the Salazar's are so furious they decide to kill Jack immediately. Jack is able to convince them that he knows Nina and he'll be able to get the virus from her. His life is spared again.

10 PM - 11 PM

The Scoop: Palmer decides to fight fire with fire against Milligen; Jack and Nina meet again; Claudia and her family try to escape.

What's Up With Palmer: Wayne tries to convince Palmer that if he doesn't let Wayne resign, Milligen will destroy everything Palmer's worked for. Palmer won't let Wayne leave because he feels Milligen's threat is worse than Wayne's affair with Milligen's wife. Wayne meets with Milligen's wife, Julia, to ask if she'll help by getting Milligen to lighten up. She tells Wayne that if he'll resume their affair (while she stays married to Milligen) she'll help. Wayne says no and she walks out, telling him to forget it. Wayne tells Palmer about their meeting. Palmer claims he's going to fight Milligen at his own game, not telling Wayne what he's planning. After Wayne leaves, Palmer picks up the phone and calls his ex-wife, Sherry. He tells her he needs her help and that he's sending a car to pick her up; Sherry readily agrees.

What's Up At CTU: Everybody's still trying to track Jack down when Gael's phone rings; it's Hector. Hector tells him that Nina Meyers botched their plans by attaining the virus. Jack gets on the phone and tells him where they're headed and they're able to trace the call. Afterward, Tony tells Kim that Jack's been found and is okay but that Chase has been captured. He declines telling her that Nina is now in the picture. Meanwhile, Chloe's working in her office and gets a call from her babysitter who needs to go home. Chloe's forced to bring her baby into work with her. When Chappelle enters her office and discovers the baby he orders Chloe to either get rid of the baby or find somebody else to do her job.

What's Up With Jack: Jack, Hector and Ramon return to the ranch. When the coast is clear, Jack approaches Claudia and tells her that their going to be leaving and as soon as she gets the chance she's to get Chase, her father and her young brother and escape. Then the men leave to find Nina. Ramon decides it's best if just he and Jack go and Hector retreats to the house. Even though Ramon still doesn't trust him, Jack's able to convince him to let him go to Nina by himself. Ramon watches Jack through a night-scope as he makes his way towards Nina's camp. When he gets there he kills the guards and holds Nina at gunpoint. Then, Nina's partner comes out, shoots at Jack and soon Nina's holding Jack at gunpoint. Nina's curious about Jack's motives. She doesn't believe that he's not working for CTU. Jack tells her all he wants is to sell the virus to the Salazar's for millions of dollars and disappear. He asks Nina how much she's getting paid for the virus and tells her the Salazar's will pay her much more. Her partner tells her not to listen to Jack and encourages her to hurry up and kill him so they can deliver the virus to their client. Nina holds the gun to Jacks head but at the last minute turns and shoots her partner dead. She puts her hand on Jack's leg, gets up close and tells him to convince her that he's truly changed. She moves closer to him and although Jack looks a bit horrified, the two end up kissing.

What's Up With Hector: After talking to Gael, Hector realizes that Chase must be kept alive for now. He's on his way to the barn where Chase is being held when Claudia's little brother runs up and tells him that Claudia said they'll be leaving soon and that he doesn't want to leave him. Hector tells him their not going anywhere and that he'll talk to Claudia. He approaches Claudia in the kitchen and asks her what's going on. She makes up an excuse that she only told the boy they were leaving to punish him for saying he wants to play with guns. Satisfied with her excuse, Hector goes to the barn where Chase is hanging from his wrists. Hector walks in, cuts him down, holds him against the wall and asks if he came by himself. Chase again, refuses to answer and Hector shoots him in the middle of his hand. Later, after Jack and Ramon leave, Hector returns to the house and sits in front of the TV. Claudia goes out the back door and asks the guy guarding the barn for a light. While his back's turned she clobbers him with a rifle, knocking him out. She enters the barn where Chase is lying face down in agony.

What's Up With Chase: Claudia pretends she's there to help get Chase to talk and she secretly gives Chase a knife. Then she throws gasoline in the face of his tormenter and Chase stabs him. Then the two of them hurry outside where Claudia's dad and her little brother are waiting for them in a running truck. Claudia and Chase are in the bed of the truck, hiding when 2 guards approach the truck and ask her dad where he's going. They don't believe him when he says he's getting something for Hector and when they approach the bed of the truck Chase pops up and shoots them both dead. Inside, Hector hears the shots, runs out and sees the truck leaving with Claudia in the back. He shoots and shoots at the truck with Chase shooting back. The truck gets away and when Hector gets in his truck to go after them he finds that the wires have been cut. Safely away in the back of the truck, Chase thanks Claudia. When he gets no response he looks at her and sees that she's been shot in the head. A while later, the truck breaks down and Chase calls CTU to tell Tony what happened. When he gets off the phone he finds Claudia's father holding his dead daughter in his arms and weeping for her.

11 PM - 12 AM

The Scoop: Palmer continues his battle with Milligen, only now he has Sherry as a weapon; Jack begins to gain control over Nina; Hector begins defying Ramon.

What's Up With Palmer: Palmer meets with Sherry and knowing that she has inside dirt on Milligen he gives her the details of his predicament. She's happy to assist Palmer and tells him that she knows about one major skeleton in Milligen's closet that will keep him at bay. She warns Palmer that if she exposes this skeleton Milligen will be an enemy to Palmer for the rest of his life. When Milligen gets wind that Palmer's called upon Sherry for help, he phones Palmer and warns him to get rid of her or he'll make more trouble. Meanwhile, Palmer takes Wayne's advice and notifies the Mexican government that the U.S. has troops in Mexico, despite his concern of jeopardizing the virus mission.

What's Up At CTU: Kim finds out that Nina is involved with her dad in Mexico. She's shocked and disbelieved to learn that Jack is working with her. She begs Tony to make sure that Nina pays a price for her crimes after all is said and done. Meanwhile, Chloe needs someone to watch her baby so she can concentrate on her job. Chappelle assigns an unenthusiastic Kim to the job. Adam's tracking Armador but Tony wants to pull their surveillance team out for the time being (because the Salazar's are close to tracking them down). With Armador in sight with the virus Gael feels they should nab him on the spot, but Tony insists they wait for Jack to send them the word although nobody knows how Jack will accomplish that.

What's Up With Chase: Chase is with Claudia's father and brother, safe at a command post. Chase wants to continue to pursue Armador on his own. The surveillance team confirms where Armador will be exchanging the virus and they need to send in an observer to confirm that it is truly the virus. Chase volunteers and gets suited up for the job.

What's Up With Jack: Jack kisses Nina in an attempt to convince her that he's truly changed sides. She's unconvinced by the kiss because she can sense his unease. Rather than continue to try and convince her, Jack head butts Nina and holds a sharp piece of broken wood to her throat. He tells her that he's a fugitive, he needs the virus and he's going to get it. Since she's the only person Armador will sell it to he assures her that she will get her share of the money. Ramon comes to the building where Jack is holding Nina and Jack tells him Nina agreed to the exchange. When Ramon tells Jack that Claudia is dead Jack puts his head down, trying to hide his pain. Later, Nina whispers to Ramon that Jack is still working with CTU. He tells her that he's already checked him out and warns her to stay in her place. When Armador calls, he tells Nina where to meet him for the exchange. Ramon is pleased and waits for Hector to arrive.

What's Up With Hector: When Hector arrives at the building he's upset over the death of Claudia and still determined to find Chase. Jack tries to convince him that it doesn't matter anymore because the exchange will happen too quickly for CTU to catch them. Hector pulls Ramon aside and tells him they should let it go because something doesn't seem right. While they're talking Jack dials Michelle on his cell phone and says out loud to Hector where they're meeting Armador. Even though Jack is forced to hang up when Ramon wants the phone, CTU has enough information to send the teams into position. Hector continues to argue with Ramon that they should give up and Ramon becomes angry with his brother, accusing him of losing his nerve. Hector disregards Ramon and declares that the deal is off. Although Ramon warns him not to do this, Hector ignores him and turns to walk out. Jack and Nina are shocked as Ramon shoots his brother in the back.

12 AM - 1 AM

The Scoop: Sherry works on digging up the dirt on Milligen; CTU is preparing their ambush once the virus is exchanged; the exchange between Armador and Nina takes place.

What's Up With Palmer: Without giving Palmer details Sherry visits a man, in a run down trailor, who has a past with Milligen. She wants him to talk about the car accident that took his daughter's life several years ago, in which he was the only person to see that Milligen was the driver of the car. The man was paid off in order to keep quiet about Milligen being the driver. The man agrees to talk about the incident on the condition that the President grants his son, who's serving a life sentence for murder, a pardon to get him out of prison. Sherry explains the situation to Palmer who says he needs to think about it. Wayne discourages Palmer from going through with it, but Palmer believes the only way to fight somebody who's playing dirty is to play dirty right back. As Palmer mulls it over, Sherry's on her way to pay a visit to Milligen's wife.

What's Up At CTU: Everybody's on edge since the exchange of the virus is set to take place at any time. Kim finds out that the baby doesn't belong to Chloe. She confronts Chloe who explains to her that the baby is her boyfriend's and they're keeping her overnight to protect her from her abusive mother. When Kim asks why she hasn't called authorities Chloe explains that they are going to, but in the meantime they need to protect the baby. Later, Kim talks privately with Tony and tells him that she's checked in further and not only does the baby not belong to Chloe but the mother has no history of abuse. She's concerned that Chloe's too unstable to do her job. Tony tells Kim that Chloe's the only one able to keep them in contact with Jack so they have to keep quiet about the baby until the circumstances are stable.

What's Up With Ramon: After having been shot by Ramon, Hector lies on the floor bleeding. Ramon realizes that unless they get him to a hospital he will die. Knowing that going to a hospital is out of the question, Ramon shoots his brother dead. Choking back his tears, Ramon along with Jack and Nina head out to meet Armador for the exchange of the virus. Nina, in handcuffs, tells Ramon that Hector was right, Jack can't be trusted because he still works for CTU. Ramon disregards her until they arrive at the meeting place and Nina tells him she can prove it. Because she worked at CTU for 7 years she knows that they wouldn't have a whole team close by, but only one observer. She tells Ramon to check the hills beyond them. Ramon sends 2 men to opposite sides of the hills to check for any CTU agents. When the guys are behind the hills Ramon calls them to see if they've found anything. One of the men doesn't answer Ramon's page immediately and Nina's convinced CTU has gotten him. A few minutes later Ramon's guy answers his page telling him that nobody's up there. Ramon tells Nina to keep her mouth shut from now on.

What's Up With Chase: Chase is the CTU observer behind the hill watching for the exchange. When Ramon's guy finds him, Chase holds a knife to his throat and orders him to tell Ramon that everything's all clear. Then he knocks him unconscious so he can continue his surveillance. As he's watching, he's reporting to CTU what's going on. He sees Armador arrive and watches as he and Nina make the exchange. When the exchange is complete CTU orders the teams to ambush the site.

What's Up With Jack: While waiting for Armador to arrive Nina tells Jack she knows he's still a part of CTU. He tells her that if she doesn't keep quiet she's going to wind up dead and she tells him that Ramon is going to kill them both afterwards anyway. Armador arrives and Nina goes outside to meet him. When he gives her the vile containing the virus she puts it in a contraption that checks for authenticity. After she confirms that it is the virus she transfers the money into Armador's account and Armador leaves. Nina walks back to the site holding the case with the virus and gives it to Ramon. Once he has the vile he points his gun at Jack saying he doesn't need him anymore. At that point, CTU's ambush teams rush in and a major shoot-out occurs. Ramon is shot and Jack begins fighting Ramon's team. In the commotion Nina escapes and Ramon runs off with the virus. Afterwards, up in the hills Jack regroups with Chase and the CTU team. They search for Ramon who still has the virus and come upon him bent over and holding the virus as though he's going to take the top off and release it. Jack tries to convince him to give up, but Ramon pulls the vile open and a bomb explodes. The vile didn't actually contain the virus; it was rigged with a bomb. Armador is still in possession of the virus so CTU orders the other team to intercept him. The team stops Armador's vehicle and orders him out. Giving a slight nod, Armador signals assassins hidden in the hills to spray bullets at the CTU team and the whole team is wiped out. Armador returns to his vehicle, checks the vile containing the virus and drives on.

1 AM - 2 AM

The Scoop: Sherry meets with Julia Milligen; Jack and Chase are on their way back to CTU with Nina, who's making sure her capture doesn't go smoothly; Chloe reveals some unexpected news about the baby.

What's Up With Palmer: While en route to meet with Julia Milligen, Sherry calls Palmer to update him on the situation. She tells him that she's sure Milligen had something to do with Kelly's (the man who saw Milligen kill his daughter) disappearance. Palmer doesn't want her going to the Milligen house because it's too dangerous but Sherry insists. Meanwhile, Julia's preparing for Sherry's arrival by making sure that Milligen is tucked safely in bed and disabling the security cameras. When Sherry arrives Julia's very nervous but tempted by Sherry's offer that she can help her be free of Milligen. Sherry tells Julia about Kelly's disappearance and that Julia needs to help Sherry so they can have evidence against Milligen. They steel Milligen's cell phone to trace his last calls. Downstairs Sherry's about to leave when Milligen wheels into the kitchen and sees her. Sherry isn't intimidated and she directly accuses him of doing something to Kelly. In addition, she berates him and puts him down, yelling in his face and making Milligen so agitated that he begins having an attack. He gasps for Julia to get his medication but Sherry holds her back and the two of them watch as Milligen falls and dies on the floor. Julia's dazed as Sherry dictates to her what she is to do next. She tells Julia to call 911 and that nobody must ever know she was there.

What's Up With Armador: Armador is on a flight to Los Angeles. He phones a man called Alvers and tells him that he's on his way with the virus and to be ready.

What's Up With Nina: Jack and Chase have caught Nina and although Jack is once again tempted to just kill her and be done with it, she convinces him that she knows inside details about Armador and she can help catch him. The 3 of them board a flight to CTU in Los Angeles. On the plane, Jack tries to get information about Armador from Nina. She gives him the name, Alvers who Armador has been known to have contact with. Jack calls Tony so they can begin tracking Alvers. Later, Nina tells Jack that if he promises to help her with the Department of Justice she'll tell him how to get a hold of Alvers. She gives Jack a set of directions to follow using his cell phone, punching in various numbers and codes. When nothing happens Nina tells Jack to wait.

What's Up At CTU: At CTU everybody's working on tracking down Armador and Alvers when the whole entire system crashes. Chloe is the only one who knows how to get the system running and she's been suspended while Chappelle checks into who the baby belongs to. He decides to suspend her suspension so that she can work on getting the system up and running. A virus has been sent into the system causing their whole anti-terrorism network to be jammed. If Chloe can't stop the virus all the information they have stored, including who and where their undercover agents are planted will be leaked to anyone and everyone who wants the information.

What's Up With Jack: When Tony tells Jack their whole system just crashed, Jack realizes Nina didn't really give him number codes to get to Alvers. Nina smiles smugly and tells him that unless he turns the plane around and lets her go free she won't stop the virus. Jack refuses even though Tony tells him to do it because he doesn't have much confidence that Chloe will fix the network. Tony calls the pilot of Jack's plane and orders him to turn the plane around. Jack enters the cockpit, holds a gun to the pilot's head and orders him to land in Los Angeles. Just when the situation is looking really bad for everybody, Chloe's able to get the system up and running, the virus has been erased. Jack heads back to Nina, looks her right in the face and tells her CTU's system is up and running again. She says she doesn't believe him and with a big, satisfied smile like we've never seen on him before he tells her he doesn't care.

What's Up With Chloe: After Chloe saves CTU's network Chappelle commends her for her work, but says she's still on suspension because of the baby situation. He's brought Child Protective Services in and Chloe begs him to not let them take her. She tells him who the father is and when he hears he tells CPS not to take the baby. Afterwards, Kim asks Chloe why she's still there and Chloe tells her because she revealed whom the baby's father was. Kim asks who it is and Chloe tells her, "Chase". Kim looks dumbfounded.

2 AM - 3 AM

The Scoop: Sherry returns to Palmer from her botched visit to the Milligen's; Jack and Chase return to CTU where Nina will be interrogated; Kim's having another one of those days.

What's Up With Palmer: When Sherry returns to Palmer after her visit with Julia she tells him that she decided not to go to the Milligen residence and instead opted to call Julia from her cell phone. She says Julia was unwilling to help her so she sat in her car and made additional phone calls. Palmer's wary of her story and knows there's something Sherry isn't telling him. Later, Wayne informs Palmer that Milligen has been found dead of an apparent heart attack and Palmer goes to Sherry to get the truth out of her. After continuing to deny that she was at the Milligen's, Sherry decides to tell Palmer the truth about what happened. He tells her she's going to have to go to the police but she says that will only hurt Palmer further. Wayne calls Julia, who's extremely disturbed over the situation and tells Wayne what happened during Sherry's visit. He tells her to not talk to anyone and that he will help her. Meanwhile, the Palmer administration still cannot confirm if there's a significant viral terror threat so Palmer prepares as though there is.

What's Up With Armador: Armador meets Alvers at a noisy underground club in Los Angeles where they convene in a back room, equipped with a protective case in which they can handle the virus without contamination. Alvers asks Armador if Nina is out of the picture and Armador assures him that she is. Alvers is adamant that it's crucial she remain out.

What's Up With Kim: Kim's informed that Jack and Chase have returned and she's caught off guard when she goes to meet them and runs into Nina being walked in. When she sees Jack she tells him she knows about his drug addiction and she wishes he told her. Next, she deals with Chase and asks him about his baby daughter. He tells her that he didn't know he had a baby until a month ago when the mother visited him. The mother couldn't handle the baby so now the baby, named Angela, is living with Chase while his sister and Chloe help him care for her. Meanwhile, Kim's following up on certain cities that Armador has visited recently to see if he could have been meeting anybody that CTU could find and talk to.

What's Up With Jack: After seeing Kim, the first issue Jack's confronted with at CTU is Chappelle and a woman from Division questioning him about his drug habit. Jack is exasperated but honest about the fact that he became addicted while trying to get inside the Salazar group. Chappelle and the woman are willing to put on the record that Jack didn't begin using until January when it was at that point inevitable. However, Jack doesn't want anything false to go on record and says he began using in December and he doesn't want anything hidden because he was doing his job and he got the results expected from him. Subsequently, Chase enters the room to update them on Nina's interrogation, telling them that Tony had no luck getting anything out of her so they're bringing in the pain administrator to torment her into giving them information. Jack doesn't think that anyone who doesn't know Nina should be in the same room with her because they don't know what she's capable of and may let their guard down.

What's Up With Nina: While Tony's interrogating her, Nina shows no emotion and doesn't answer any of his questions. She only taunts him with lidded eyes and a smirk. Next they bring in CTU's torture expert who takes out a needle the size of a pencil and inserts it into a vein in Nina's neck causing excruciating pain. She still doesn't break. The next time he inserts the needle into her neck Nina throws her head back into the needle causing it to rupture her corotal artery. She's rushed into the medic room where doctors race to stop the bleeding. When Jack hears what happened his first concern is that Nina's not secured. Just then an alarm sounds. Jack, Tony and Chappelle run to the medic room where they find Nina gone and the doctors and nurses on the floor dead. Nina's loose inside CTU. When Kim hears, she grabs the gun off a security guard who's lying in a pool of blood and looks for Nina herself. Kim finds Nina in the tech room, points the gun at her and tells her to drop her gun. Nina looks tired and tells Kim to stay out of it. She begins to raise her own gun to Kim and prepares to shoot when a shot comes from the side door and Nina falls to the ground. Jack has shot her and tells Kim to go get help. Nina's still alive as Jack stands over her, his gun pointed at her. He says, "You don't have anymore useful information for us, do you?" Nina gasps that she does as she tries to inconspicuously move her hand over to get her gun. Jack catches her hand moving towards her gun, says, "No you don't" and shoots Nina twice killing her.

3 AM - 4 AM

The Scoop: CTU has tracked down the virus; Jack & Chase find Armador; Police are suspicious about Milligen's death.

What's Up With Palmer: After Julia tells Wayne that Sherry prevented her from getting Milligen his medication hence causing his death, Wayne confronts Sherry. She tells him that Palmer must not know any more than Sherry has already told him in order to keep him in the clear. Wayne agrees but feels guilty because Palmer trusts him. Meanwhile, Julia is being interrogated by the chief of police because of the suspicious circumstances surrounding Milligen's death. Afterwards, Sherry receives a call from the chief of police who tells her that Julia has told them everything. Sherry, caught off guard, denies everything Julia told him and says she hasn't seen Julia in 3 years and that she's been with Palmer since 10:00pm. The chief asks her if Palmer would corroborate her story if he were questioned. Sherry is sure he will but it's obvious the chief doesn't believe her.

What's Up With Kim: Kim is shaken after Jack kills Nina but both Jack and Chase do what they can to comfort her. Although she's sure that Jack shot Nina because he had no choice she seems worriedly doubtful and asks Jack if he had to shoot her. Jack assures her that it was self defense. Meanwhile, Kim is staying strong and doing her job.

What's Up With Jack: Jack tells Chappelle that he had to shoot Nina because she was going for her gun. Chappelle views the security tape, which shows Jack standing over a motionless Nina and shooting her. Jack's standing in front of the camera so that Nina's hand can't be seen moving toward her gun. Because the tape makes it look like Jack's action was malicious, Chappelle doesn't want to let him go out into the field to find Armador. Jack convinces him that he has a job to do and he's going to do it. Meanwhile, Chloe has managed to track down Armador and Jack and Chase head over to the underground club where they were preparing the virus. Along with the S.W.A.T. team they raid the bar and ambush Armador. Jack has Armador brought into a private room where he demands Armador to tell him where the virus is. Armador won't cooperate so Jack has Chase slash his hand with a knife. Armador passes out and Jack tells Chase to keep at it when he awakes. Meanwhile, agents have located Armador's laptop computer and find detailed plans of the Chandler Plaza Hotel, cluing them into the fact that it must be the target of the virus.

What's Up With Alvers: In the backroom of the bar where Armador and Alvers are holding the virus, a man named Saunders arrives. He has the location of where they're going to release the virus. The target is the Chandler Plaza Hotel and Armador asks why it isn't in a larger spot. Saunders says he only wants to send a message. Saunders shows them how to use the detonating device for releasing the virus. Afterwards, Alvers heads over to the hotel dressed as a maintenance man holding a briefcase that contains the virus. He's able to walk around inconspicuously and enters the main ventilation room. There he sets up the virus attached to the detonation device, places it in front of a giant fan that filters air into the building and sets the timer.

What's Up With CTU: Chappelle readies a team to go to the Chandler Plaza Hotel. He assigns Michelle as the leader and she and Gael drive to the hotel. The hotel manager has been alerted to the threat and the hotel is in lockdown. Michelle, Gael and their team aren't supposed to enter the hotel until their protective suits arrive but Michelle, sympathizing with the hotel manager, worries it will be too late. The team enters the hotel and begins their search for Alvers. Michelle enters the pump room and finding a security guard murdered, continues looking for Alvers. She spots him disguised as a maintenance man and holds him at gunpoint. When he tries to make a run for it she realizes it's Alvers. He attacks her but she's able to fend him off and handcuffs him to a metal bar. She demands to know where the virus is and tells him that he will be amongst the dead if he doesn't tell. He tells her it's in the main ventilation room. Michelle calls Gael and tells him. Gael heads into the ventilation room and sees the virus in the detonation device beneath the giant fan. He sees that the timer is running and tells Michelle he has to try to disarm it himself because there isn't time to wait for back up. He carefully reaches toward the device but just as he's about to grab it the detonator goes off and a white powder is blown into Gael's face and into the air. The virus has been released.

4 AM - 5 AM

The Scoop: The virus has been released inside the Chandler Plaza Hotel, contaminating everybody inside, including Gael and Michelle; Jack grills Armador for information; Palmer has to decide if he's going to lie to the police about Sherry's whereabouts earlier that night or if he's going to remain true to himself.

What's Up With Palmer: Sherry tells Palmer the truth about what happened at Milligen's house; that Julia has told the police Sherry was there at the time of Milligen's death and that she prevented Julia from giving him his medication. Since Sherry told the police that she was with Palmer the whole night, she strongly encourages him to back up her story in order to protect himself and his presidency. Wayne also advises Palmer to back Sherry up. Palmer is furious but when the chief of police is brought in to question him Palmer confirms Sherry's story, telling him that she was with him. Afterwards, he tells Sherry that he despises what she did and what she's forced him to do and tells her to get out of his sight. Later, he receives a call from Jack and his predicament with Sherry is about to seem small in comparison to what's being unloaded onto him now.

What's Up With CTU: Michelle calls Tony and tells him that the virus has been released inside the hotel. Tony's concerned about Gael who's been in direct contact and doesn't realize Michelle's inside until she tells him. She says they're going to have to quarantine the hotel, believing they have a 14-hour incubation period to give them the time they need to contain the virus. Tony speaks to the head of the National Health Service who's heading over to the hotel with protective gear. He tells her that he's received information that the virus has been altered and asks if that may improve Michelle's chances. She doesn't give Tony much hope, knowing the drastic effects the virus will have. Meanwhile, Michelle tells Tony that there are 11 more sites for the virus to be released in the country and finding out where they are is their number one priority. Meanwhile, in order to make sure the virus is contained within the hotel Chappelle makes the decision that if anybody tries to leave, agents outside the hotel are ordered to shoot without discretion.

What's Up With Michelle: Michelle and Gael are working with the hotel manager on locking down the hotel and making sure that a panic doesn't break out. Suddenly Gael's nose starts bleeding profusely and Michelle demands Alvers tell her how he altered the virus. He says he'll tell her everything as long as she promises to kill him before his own symptoms start showing. He reveals that the virus's incubation period has been drastically reduced. Meanwhile, Gael's quarantined alone in the basement and is rapidly getting sicker. The hotel manager confronts a worker who's eager to get home and doesn't understand why he can't leave. He does some investigating and hears Gael talking to Michelle about his deteriorating condition. The worker panics and sets off the fire alarm, waking the whole hotel and causing the patrons to anxiously try to get out. Michelle stops the patrons by telling them a toxic substance has been release outside the hotel and if they leave they'll be contaminated. That holds them for a few minutes until several patrons begin bleeding rapidly from their noses. That convinces people that the toxic substance is inside the hotel and pandemonium begins. A furious man throws a chair out the window determined to escape. Michelle points a gun at him and tells him if he tries to leave she'll shoot him. He says, "No you won't" and turns his back on her. Michelle shoots him twice in the back making quite an example of him.

What's Up With Jack: Jack continues to press Armador for who's in charge of the virus. No matter what Jack threatens him with Armador refuses to speak and would rather die than give up his identity. Jack handcuffs him to a pipe and leaves the room. Armador is able to unscrew the pipe and escape. Just as we're wondering about why on earth Jack would have handcuffed him to something he could so easily escape from, Kim calls and tells him Armador's on the run. Jack had his escape planned so they could track him to the controller. While driving Armador calls the controller, who has several briefcases of the virus lined up in front of him, and tells him he needs money to escape the country. Knowing Jack Bauer, the controller tells him to make sure he's not being followed. When Armador arrives at the meeting sight Jack and Chase are watching his every move. Armador gets into a car and a guy hands him a briefcase supposedly containing money. When Armador opens the briefcase he sees it's really a bomb and the car explodes. Afterward, the controller phones Jack and although he knows Jack well, he doesn't reveal his identity. He orders Jack to call President Palmer. Jack phones Palmer and tells him that the controller of the virus wants to speak to him and that Palmer's going to have to go along with his demands. When the controller is connected with Palmer he tells him that he has enough of the virus to wipe out half of the country and that if Palmer doesn't use the power he has to go along with his demands, he'll use it. He tells Palmer to understand that he's no longer in control of the country and that he'll be in touch.

5 AM - 6 AM

The Scoop: CTU discovers the identity of the man who controls the virus; Gael's condition is rapidly deteriorating and many more hotel patrons are showing symptoms of the virus; Palmer begins to follow the orders of the controller in an effort to stop him from releasing the virus all over the country.

What's Up With Palmer: Palmer's advised to raise the terror alert to red and to ground all aircrafts within the U.S. The controller calls him and tells him there's a box that's to be picked up and delivered to Palmer. After the box is determined to not contain any type of bomb or virus it's delivered to Palmer. Inside is a special cell phone that cannot be traced. The controller calls Palmer on that phone immediately and tells him this is how they will be communicating from now on. He also gives Palmer his first demand. He tells Palmer that he's to hold a press conference about anything at all. At some point during the conference he's to use the phrase "the sky is falling." Palmer holds the conference and tells the press that there's an imminent terrorist threat, he's raising the national terror alert to red and he's grounding all flights within the U.S. Then he says, "I'm not doing this because the sky is falling…" Shortly after the conference Palmer's notified that a building that housed the British agency MI-6 downtown has been bombed. It's unclear whether the phrase Palmer was ordered to say during the press conference gave the go-ahead for the attack. Later, the controller calls Palmer again with another order. This time he wants Ryan Chappelle of CTU killed.

What's Up With CTU: Tony's trying to stay focused as he's agonizing over Michelle's predicament at the hotel. Chappelle tells him that he needs to accept Michelle as dead and to continue with his work as a means of getting revenge…or else he's to go home. Tony has no intention of leaving. He tells Michelle to get more information out of Alvers so they can find out who's in control of the virus. After Alvers describes what the man looks like CTU is able to put up a bunch of profiles of possible suspects. Michelle shows Alvers the profiles from her laptop. After Alvers views all the profiles and doesn't recognize any of them Tony tells Chloe to widen the search. Jack, who's been listening on his phone the whole time, tells them to search for men who are presumed dead. When this is done Alvers is able to identify the controller. Now that CTU knows who he is they begin to search for anybody in the area who's had contact with him and Chappelle begins to track any funds associated with him.

What's Up With Jack: When the photograph of the controller is downloaded onto Jack's car computer he finally realizes who it is. The controller's name is Stephen Saunders and Jack worked with him on the Victor Gaines mission in Kosovo years ago. He was assumed dead along with 5 other agents in a massive explosion. Jack assumes he must have been captured and they must have done something to him. Saunders had been a patriot and after the explosion Jack left him…perhaps that's why he has such a vendetta. Meanwhile, Jack calls a co-worker at the MI-6 headquarters downtown who's aware that Saunders is alive. He tells Jack that Saunders had a relationship with a woman who currently lives in L.A. so Jack and Chase head over to get her and bring her to MI-6 to question her. They arrive at her house and after a brief confrontation with gunfire, they're able to tell her who they are and bring her to MI-6's office in an L.A. building to question her. Shortly after they arrive, a helicopter approaches outside the window and sprays the office with bullets, killing the woman brought in for questioning and most of the employees. Jack and Chase race into the hallway and are confronted by uzi-wielding terrorists whom they manage to shoot first. They enter the tech room and Jack attempts to retrieve the hard drive of MI-6 so all the data they've compiled can't be destroyed by the terrorists. In doing so he sees a bomb ready to detonate at any second. Seconds before it detonates, Jack is able to grab the hard drive and he and Chase leave the building unharmed.

What's Up With Michelle: Michelle makes an announcement to the whole hotel that they all need to go back to their rooms. Meanwhile, the health office arrives clad in protective gear and ready to begin testing all the hotel patrons. Michelle is the first one tested and can expect results in about 2 hours. So far Michelle doesn't have any symptoms. She visits Gael who's dying. Gael face is covered with bleeding blisters and he's having trouble breathing. Michelle assures him that she'll make sure his family is aware of what the brave hero that he was. She offers her gun to him to end his suffering but Gael says he was raised to believe that suicide of any type is wrong. So she leaves him to die alone. After seeing Gael's suffering Michelle calls Tony and tells him that she wants the capsules they have put aside for agents who have been captured so they can take the pill and die from it to prevent a prolonged, torturous death. Tony and Chappelle both agree that the agents and patrons should have the option to take the capsule and they have them delivered to the hotel.

6 AM -  7 AM

The Scoop: Jack tells Chappelle that Saunders has ordered him (Chappelle) to be killed by 7:00am; more hotel patrons are becoming sick and Michelle offers them suicide capsules to end their suffering; Michelle finds out that one of the hotel guests exposed to the virus has gotten out.

What's Up With Palmer: Palmer doesn't want to have Chappelle murdered but he and Wayne see no other option. Their only hope is if Saunders is found by the 7:00am deadline. Meanwhile, information is trickling out to the press that a toxic agent has contaminated the Chandler Plaza Hotel. Palmer's press secretary explains that he must know the details of the situation in order to handle the press when the story comes out. Palmer warns him not to go public until they are positive the virus in contained within the hotel.

What's Up With CTU: Jack is thoroughly distressed when Palmer tells him that Chappelle is to be killed and his body delivered to Saunders men by 7:00am. Jack cautiously breaks the news to Chappelle who is horrified and can't understand how this could happen. He can't figure out why Saunders has chosen him to be murdered because as far as Chappelle can remember he's never met or had anything to do with Saunders. Jack tells Chappelle to do everything he can so they can figure out where Saunders is by 7:00am. Chappelle sends an encoded bank account file over to Chloe, their only hope is that she can figure out where it came from therefore revealing Saunders' location. Chappelle is panicking knowing that if Saunders isn't found he's going to have to die. Tony has ordered guards to make sure he isn't able to leave the building and when he tries, claiming he's going outside for a cigarette, he's stopped. Tony and Jack are able to override his authority given the severity of the situation. Meanwhile, Chloe is able to track down an apartment building in Los Angeles where a transaction was made 45 minutes ago. Tony orders Chase to ambush the apartment. In the meantime Jack and Chappelle take a helicopter to the location where Saunders has ordered Chappelle's murder, in case Chase is unable to capture Saunders. When he and another agent arrive at the apartment they're forced to shoot several men guarding the building. They find one particular man guarding the outside of an apartment presumed to be Saunders'. After shooting down the guard Chase enters the apartment only to find an electronic dialing device in the center of the room. Saunders is nowhere in sight.

What's Up With Jack: Jack is in a moral predicament realizing that it is he who will have to take Chappelle's life. When Chase notifies them that Saunders has not been found, both Jack and Chappelle know that they have no other choice but to end Chappelle's life. They step out of the helicopter and look down an alley to where an unmarked black van is waiting and watching. Jack asks if he'd like to call anybody and Chappelle says he has no one to call. Chappelle is sweating and shaking as he gets down upon his knees with his back facing Jack. Just before Jack shoots Chappelle stops him and asks if he can take his own life. Jack is reluctant, concerned that Chappelle will try to run but Chappelle convinces him that he couldn't live with himself knowing he was responsible for Saunders releasing the virus and killing millions. He holds the gun to his head but puts it down, unable to go through with it. Jack takes the gun, stands behind Chappelle and says, "God forgive me" as he pulls the trigger. Chappelle goes down; Saunders orders have been carried through.

What's Up With Michelle: Michelle is dismayed watching the weakening hotel patrons. The hotel manager approaches her, his nose bleeding and asks if he can call his wife. Michelle refuses to let him, even though he assures her he won't say anything about the situation. He reminds her how he's done everything he could to help her. Michelle isn't persuaded. After the suicide capsules have been made available to anyone who wants them Michelle learns that a woman has come forward claiming that the man she came to the hotel with is gone and she can't find him. The couple was at the hotel for a one-night-stand and the woman doesn't know anything other than his first name. They're able to get half a fingerprint belonging to the man and the woman is able to identify him when shown profiles of several men. Meanwhile, the man in question has returned home to his wife and is in the bathroom feeling sick and trying to stop his bloody nose. Assuming he's caught some sort of bug he prepares to go to work.

7 AM - 8 AM

The Scoop: CTU discovers that Saunders has a daughter whom he's been supporting financially; Kim receives her first field assignment and Jack is determined to stop it.

What's Up With Palmer: Palmer calls his cabinet to an emergency meeting and briefs them about the virus threat and the contamination of the Chandler Plaza Hotel. When he explains that he's been forced to carry out orders from Saunders, the cabinet is shocked and distressed that Palmer went through with the murder of Chappelle, a federal agent. Palmer orders his cabinet to open all of their files to CTU and to help them in any way possible. Palmer's meeting is interrupted when Saunders phones in on his cell phone with his next demand. He orders Palmer to send him a list of all governmental undercover agents around the world or he'll release two more vials of the virus in two major cities in a way that it will be impossible to contain.

What's Up With CTU:
Once it's discovered that Saunders has a daughter named Jane who attends the University of California, Tony informs Jack, telling him they've got to get to her. Jack tells him that Saunders is sure to have his daughter under surveillance and the only way to get her is to secretly grab her and replace her with a look-alike CTU agent. Tony orders Chloe to get him a list of every female CTU agent who has similar features and body type to Jane. When Chloe brings him the list he discovers that their only option is to use Kim. Although Tony realizes Jack is going to explode when he hears this, he summons Kim into his office and tells her the situation. Kim readily agrees to the operation.

What's Up With Jack: When Jack hears of Tony's intention to put Kim into the field he's furious. Tony tells him that it's Kim's decision and she wants to do it. Jack tries to talk Kim out of it but she can't be swayed. Therefore, Jack accompanies her to the University of California library where she will pose as Jane Saunders. In the library an agent "accidentally" spills coffee on Jane. Jane heads to the bathroom (all the while being watched closely by one of Saunders' men). In the bathroom two agents chloroform her and Kim assumes her role as Jane. Jane is brought into the CTU van and woken up. Jack angrily grills her for her father's whereabouts. Jane claims she barely knows her dad and has no idea where he is or how to get a hold of him. Jack doesn't believe her. Meanwhile, Jane's bodyguard is getting too close to Kim and she tries to avert him. Another bodyguard grabs her and asks her where Jane is. He drags Kim outside behind the library and as soon as Jack realizes something's gone wrong he runs as fast as he can to save her. When he sees Kim struggling with the man he yells out just as a gunshot is heard. Kim has shot the guy in the stomach. Since the operation was intervened by Saunders' men, Saunders will know that CTU has Jane.

What's Up With Michelle:
Michelle has to wait another hour before getting the test results of viral exposure back, but thus far she shows no symptoms. As she watches covered bodies being taken from the hotel she becomes more distressed. Meanwhile, Cole, the man who was unknowingly contaminated at the hotel has been trying to stop his nose from bleeding while on his way to work. He goes to a pharmacy, picks up several products then asks the pharmacist what he should do. After the pharmacist suggests he go to the hospital Cole leaves, bumping into a woman on his way out. Meanwhile, CTU agents clad in protective gear are at his home drilling Cole's wife for information who knows nothing. They ultimately quarantine her in a large plastic case and remove her from the home. Cole enters the hospital emergency room, his nose bleeding profusely, and is told to sit and wait. He joins 6 other patients in the waiting room. He looks up at the TV and sees a broadcast about a toxic substance in the Chandler Plaza Hotel. He frantically tells a nurse that he was at the hotel. She looks at a picture hanging on the wall with Cole's face on it recognizing him as the man they're supposed to isolate. Next CTU agents are drilling him as to where he's been and how many people he's had contact with.

8 AM - 9 AM

The Scoop: Michelle gets her test results for the virus back; Saunders' location is determined; Tony is faced with an unexpected predicament.

What's Up With Palmer: When Palmer hears that CTU has gotten a hold of Saunders' daughter he decides that he will not obey any more of Saunders' orders. He's hoping he won't have to give Saunders the list of National undercover agents. The head of Secret Service tells Palmer that Secret Service is invoking a clause that enables them to order the President to leave the state because of imminent danger. Palmer is able to convince him that the best thing for the country and himself is to stay put in L.A. Later, Palmer holds a press conference sans any recording devices, and encourages the media to only tell the public that there is a current biological terror threat and all civilians should go home and stay there until further notice.

What's Up With CTU: Chloe finds out that that Adam's sister has been quarantined because she's tested positive for the virus. She tells Tony saying she doesn't think Tony should tell Adam right now because the news may distract him too much. Tony disregards Chloe's suggestion telling her he's sick of her personality and tells Adam anyway. Adam is clearly disconcerted upon hearing about his sister but goes back to work. Later, Chloe tells Tony that Adam messed up a satellite feed because he's too distracted. Adam admits his mistake but convinces Tony to let him go back to work. Chloe tells Adam she'll be keeping a close eye on him. Meanwhile, Tony gets a call from Michelle telling him that her test results came back negative and she's going to be fine. The two declare their deep love for each other and Tony is obviously grateful. Later, he receives a disturbing phone call from Saunders.

What's Up With Michelle: After finding out she's immune to the virus, Michelle is finally able to leave the hotel and all the horrors inside it. She enters a van presumably on her way back to CTU.

What's Up With Jack: Jack shows Jane slides and tells her all the details of what her father's involved in. Jane gives Jack a phone number her dad gave her to use only in emergencies. Jack has her phone him and tells her to keep him on the line for 1 minute so they can trace the call. They succeed in tracing the call and immediately set out for Saunders' location. When they get to the apartment complex Jack's convinced that Saunders' knows they're there because he would know if he were Saunders. He has the SWAT team surround the building as he yells to Saunders through a bullhorn that they have his daughter and it's time for him to surrender.

What's Up With Saunders: When Saunders gets the call from Jane he has his right hand man track the call and is able to see that the call is being traced. He tells Jane that he knows Jack Bauer is with her and hangs up. Upon realizing that they're about to be captured, Saunders' assistant decides they need to escape. Saunders disagrees and shoots him dead. He calls one of his men on the outside and asks, "has she left yet", to which the answer is no. Saunders tells him to keep watching whoever "she" is. Saunders knows that CTU has the building surrounded so he heads in another direction and calls Tony at CTU. He gives Tony a website and tells him to log onto it. There, Tony sees Michelle captured and gagged by one of Saunders men. Saunders tells Tony that he's to override Jack's orders to the SWAT team and get all the shooters to the front of the building. Tony's reluctant but is horrified that Michelle will be tortured and killed, so he follows Saunders' orders. When Saunders sees that the SWAT team has vacated the back of his building he's able to walk out and escape with his briefcase as if he's just an ordinary citizen going to work.

9 AM - 10 AM

The Scoop: Determined to protect Michelle Tony follows Saunders' orders; Jack suspects something's up with Tony; Sherry visits Palmer's top opponent, Senator Keeler.

What's Up With Palmer: Sherry pays a visit to Senator Keeler with a proposal for him that will guarantee his election into the White House. She tells him that Palmer withheld vital information regarding Milligen's death because she was there at the time. She tells Keeler everything about what happened last night at Milligen's. She assures Keeler that if he goes to Palmer with this information, Palmer will withdraw from the election. In return, Sherry wants Keeler to guarantee her a spot on his White House staff.

What's Up With CTU: Jane Saunders is brought into CTU and Tony brings her into a back room. When Saunders calls he demands to talk to Jane but Tony wants to talk to Michelle first. Afterward, Saunders tells Tony that he's to get Jane out of CTU and if he can't pull it off Michelle will die. Meanwhile, Chloe and Adam are noticing several discrepancies taking place within CTU and Chloe figures out that somebody inside CTU is working against them. Adam tells Tony who gives both he and Chloe orders that will hopefully hold them off of discovering it's him. Then Chloe gets a call informing her that Michelle is missing. When Chloe tells Tony he tells her that he temporarily put Michelle in quarantine but that she's fine. Chloe thinks Tony's acting strange. Then Tony has Chloe go into the Tech 1 room to try and decipher the voice of the person within CTU Saunders was talking to. Since he knows it's himself Tony shuts down Chloe's computer as she begins to figure it out and locks her in the tech room.

What's Up With Michelle: Michelle's kept tied up with her mouth taped. When Saunders allows her to talk to Tony, he tells her to only say that she's fine and she's being treated well. Before Saunders grabs the phone from her Michelle tries to tell Tony to not let them do this.

What's Up With Jack: Back at CTU, Jack is furious that Tony overrode his orders to the SWAT team. Jack senses something's up with Tony because Tony wants to keep the fact that there's a mole at CTU quiet. Jack wants to alert Division but Tony tells him that he has a conference call coming up with Division and he'll tell them then. Jack checks up on it and finds out Tony was lying about having a conference call. When he questions Tony about it Tony admits that he made a crucial mistake and then tried to cover it up. Jack tells him that he's unfit to run CTU and Jack assumes Tony's position without any argument from Tony. When Kim tells Jack that Tony sent Chloe to work in Tech 1 but that she can't be reached Jack heads over to the tech room. Chloe tells him that Tony locked her in and when they discover that Jane is missing and Tony can't be reached Jack realizes that Tony's the one who's been working against them…he just doesn't know why. Meanwhile, Tony took out the guard in charge of Jane and has taken Jane out of CTU. They are in a car on their way out of CTU when Tony calls Saunders to let him know he's gotten Jane out.

10 AM -11 AM

The Scoop: Jack is closing in on Saunders; Michelle begins outsmarting her captors; Sherry puts Palmer between a rock and a hard place.

What's Up With Palmer: Senator Keeler takes Sherry's advice and visits Palmer with the pill bottle that was kept from Milligen as he died. Holding that evidence, Keeler highly recommends Palmer withdraw from the campaign in order to avoid a scandal and going to prison. Furious, Palmer phones Sherry who tells him he should have kept her on his white house staff. Palmer's hard to break but Sherry's pretty sure that he'll withdraw from the campaign to keep out of prison, ensuring Keeler's presidency. Palmer tells Wayne about the situation and sees no way out other than withdrawing from the campaign. Wayne tells Palmer that the whole situation can be averted if they're able to get the prescription pill bottle from Sherry. Without saying a word Palmer authorizes Wayne to contact someone to "help" them do what they must to avoid the scandal.

What's Up With CTU: Tony's driving Jane to a secret location where Saunders will trade Michelle for Jane. Jack's hot on his trail though and it doesn't take long before Jack cuts him off and confronts him. Tony's forced to be truthful about the situation, telling him that Michelle's life is in jeopardy. Jack tells Tony that the best way to keep Michelle alive is for Tony to work with him. Tony drives to the pay phone where Saunders is going to call him with the location of the trade. Jack tells Tony to make Saunders pick a location other than the one he wants so Jack will have time to get the CTU team in place. Although Tony's upset with Jack because he doesn't think he cares about Michelle's life, he does what Jack says. Saunders calls, a location is agreed upon and Jack along with Tony and the CTU team are ready to ambush Saunders and his men, hopefully sparing the lives of Michelle and Jane while doing so.

What's Up With Michelle: Michelle is working on the guy Saunders has guarding her, trying to freak him out about being exposed to the virus. She gives herself a bloody nose and screams, bringing the guard in. He nervously calls Saunders and tells him Michelle's infected with the virus. Saunders knows Michelle's tricking him. While calling Saunders the guard forgets to lock Michelle's door, she sneaks out, smashes a brick over the guard's head and escapes, taking the guard's gun and cell phone. She tries to find a way out while avoiding Saunders and his assistant who are hunting her down. She calls CTU and Chloe patches her through to Jack & Tony. Tony wants the team to go in and save Michelle right away but Jack tells Michelle she has to let herself be recaptured by Saunders because the exchange must take place. Tony's furious with Jack but Michelle allows herself to be recaptured. She's driven by Saunders and his men to the meeting place and is ready to be released just as CTU supposedly releases Jane.

What's Up With Jack: With Jack and the CTU team still under cover, Tony tells Jane to walk over to her father's men. She and Michelle begin to walk towards each other. The team can't make a move until they have a visual on Saunders. The closer Jane gets to her father's men, the more upset she looks. At the last minute Jane turns around and tries to run back to Tony. Seeing her flee, Saunders pops up and yells for her to come back. Jack and the team strike and a shootout occurs with Tony sheltering Michelle. Jack goes after Saunders who runs from the scene into a concrete ravine. Jack's pursuing him when a helicopter flies in to pick up Saunders and begins firing at Jack. CTU has 2 air force jets ready to attack. Jack's taking cover as Saunders is about to be lifted into his helicopter. Just then one of the air force jets shoots a rocket, blowing up the helicopter and sending Saunders crashing to the ground. After the explosion Jack approaches Saunders who's lying on his back and demands to know where the additional 11 vials of the virus are. Saunders says that he'll never tell, no matter what they threaten him with. Meanwhile, the CTU team has prevailed over Saunders men and Tony, Michelle and a shaken Jane are all unscathed. Jack informs everybody that they have Saunders in custody.

11 AM - 12 PM

The Scoop: Jack finally breaks Saunders; Palmer and Wayne concoct a plan to get Miliken's medication bottle from Sherry; Tony is arrested for treason.

What's Up With Palmer: Palmer calls Sherry and asks her to meet him at a park, telling her he's willing to offer her a position within his administration. Wayne is with Foxton, the professional evidence finder, ready to enter Sherry's house after she leaves. When she leaves they break into her house and begin tearing it apart searching for the pill bottle. Meanwhile, Palmer tells Sherry that he's prepared to make her the top consultant in his administration. Sherry scoffs at that idea and tells Palmer that what she wants is to be his wife, the first lady, again. After a brief hesitation Palmer agrees. Sherry realizes something's up because he agreed so quickly. She tells him to forget it, that Keeler will be the next president and walks away from him. Palmer calls Wayne to alert him that Sherry's on her way home. Foxton has found a safe and is working on getting it open. Sherry pulls into the driveway just as he gets the safe open and realizes the pill bottle isn't there. Foxton hides and Sherry walks in, finding Wayne. Foxton comes from behind her and punches her out. He searches her and finds the bottle taped to her back. As Wayne's leaving Sherry's house he sees Julia walking in so he runs back into the house. Julia points a gun at Sherry, saying that it's her fault Julia will be spending the rest of her life in jail for Miliken's murder. Sherry tries to reason with her but Julia shoots her twice in the chest. Then she looks at Wayne, says she's sorry and shoots herself in the head.

What's Up With CTU: After Saunders is taken into custody Tony is arrested and brought back to CTU. Chappelle's replacement informs him that his offense warrants the death penalty, but given Tony's stellar past with CTU he's probably facing 20 years of prison. When Michelle's asked if she would have done what Tony did if the situation were reversed, she's unable to answer.

What's Up With Saunders: Saunders tells Jack that the only way he'll reveal where the 11 vials of the virus are is if he gets a presidential pardon and is able to flee to North Africa. Jack refuses and has Jane brought over. He tells Jane to work on getting her dad to talk. Jane begs Saunders not do go through with releasing the virus. Saunders gently explains to her that she doesn't understand now but someday she will. Jane's unable to convince him, so Jack has Saunders and Jane brought over to the Chandler Plaza Hotel where dozens of body bags lay outside. He threatens to put Jane into the hotel if Saunders doesn't talk. Hesitating for as long as he can, Saunders realizes Jack really will put Jane into the hotel. He finally breaks and says he'll talk. He tells Jack that each courier of each of the 11 vials has a tracking chip. He gives Jack the codes for all 11 vials. One vial doesn't register and Saunders can't explain why. He says the vial is somewhere in Los Angeles with its courier called, Rabens.

What's Up With Jack: 10 vials are found in states around the country. Each one is in tact and neutralized. The only courier missing is Rabens in L.A. Chloe locates the vial's tracking chip on her computer and tells Jack where to go. They discover that Rabens is in the subway system. They stop the train he's on in order to get teams into place. All they know is that Rabens is a white male with brown hair. When Jack gives the word the train is brought into the station and the passengers disembark. Chloe's still tracking the chip and is able to tell Jack where Rabens is heading. Finally, Rabens stops and Jack orders the teams in. Jack ambushes Rabens and he and Chase search him. Chase's virus detector is going off but no vial is found. The man captured isn't Rabens; Rabens planted the chip on an unsuspecting citizen and is somewhere in the subway station unable to be traced. Jack orders the station to be shut down.

12 AM  - 1 PM

The Scoop: Jack and Chase continue to pursue Rabens; Palmer finds out Sherry's dead; Tony's temporarily put back on the floor.

What's Up With Palmer: When Wayne returns from Sherry's, Palmer asks if they got the prescription bottle and Wayne tells him yes but he looks forlorn. Wayne tells Palmer that Sherry and Julia are both dead. Palmer's shocked and looks defeated. Wayne tries convincing him that everything is okay politically because they're free of everything. He begins concocting a story about Sherry having an affair with Milliken and Julia killing her out of jealousy. Palmer quickly douses that idea and has his son and daughter brought in so he can tell them that their mother is dead.

What's Up With CTU: Gael's wife is brought into CTU to gather his belongings. Michelle has Kim watch the distraught women while she collects Gael's things. In her grief the wife looks up and sees Saunders' profile on a computer screen. Chloe needs Kim's help with something so Kim asks another agent to watch Gael's wife as she loads his stuff into a box. At one point the agent looks away to sign something just as Gael's wife discovers Gael's gun. Afterward, she's lead out of the office. On her way out she passes by Saunders whose trying to verify Rabens' identity by looking at profiles on a computer. As Gael's wife walks by him she pulls out Gael's gun and shoots Saunders straight through the heart. Saunders dies instantly. Meanwhile, Division is interrogating Tony when Michelle walks in and says they need Tony's expertise to help catch Rabens. The head of Division is reluctant to let him back on the floor but concedes, realizing Tony's crucial to their plight.

What's Up With Jack: In the subway station CTU along with the FBI and LAPD are checking every passenger who could be Rabens. Rabens, who's in line waiting to be checked, grasps a knife in his pocket. Jack notices him at the end of the line, turns away and when he looks back Rabens is gone. He immediately notifies Chase and they begin their pursuit. As Rabens exits the station he kills 2 officers and civilian whose car he takes. Jack notifies CTU that Rabens is on the run and CTU tracks down what kind of car he's in and where he's headed. As various agents keep cutting Rabens off, Rabens speeds into the front of a middle school and runs inside with the virus in his bag. Jack, Chase and other agents follow him in, close off the school and lockdown all the kids and teacher in classrooms. Chase is attacked by Rabens in a science lab. The two struggle, beating each other up. The detonator with the virus attached to it falls out of Rabens' bag and both men desperately try to get to it. Chase manages to clasp the steel band around his wrist so Rabens can't get it off him. Rabens sets the detonator to go off and prepares to shoot Chase's hand off. Jack enters the room and shoots Rabens dead. Now Jack calls the bomb squad so they can walk him through how to disarm the detonator, still attached to Chase's arm. They can't get it off him because it's made of titanium. They have 3 minutes before the virus is released. The bomb squad tells Jack which wires to cut but then they realize that the unit Jack's working with doesn't match theirs. Chase looks over at an axe that's hanging on the wall. He tells Jack to do it. Jack wants to wait for the bomb squad to call back but they only have a minute and a half left. He has no choice but to take the axe off the wall. Chase creates a tourniquet from his belt. Jack aligns the axe with Chase's hands and swiftly lops it off. Chase passes out and Jack grabs the detonator and runs like heck into the teacher's lounge where he throws the virus into the airtight refrigerator. The detonator goes off and the virus is safely contained.

The Wrap-Up: After his work is done on the floor, Tony tells Michelle he's being taken back into custody. He tells her that because she's alive and nobody was hurt it's worth him going to prison. He's taken away in handcuffs. Meanwhile, Jack's at the hospital where Chase is in surgery attempting to save his hand. Palmer calls him to thank him for his and Chase's extraordinary work. He also tells Jack that he's decided not to run for reelection…this will be his final term. After the call, Kim comes in. Earlier, Chase told Jack that he wanted to be taken out of the field and transfer to office duty, telling him he doesn't want to have to detach himself from Kim or his daughter. Jack tells Kim he supports the both of them. Then Jack tells her he has some things to take care of and he leaves. Jack sits in the driver's seat of his minivan and completely breaks down. He bangs the window in emotion and continues to cry as CTU pages him that they need him to return. Jack wipes his eyes and hesitates before he weakly tells them that he'll be right there.
